Three Charms
Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 03:44PM Remember these chinese charms I bought at an antiques show a while back? Well, they made it into this assemblage box:
They had a little hole in the upper part I guess for a string or something, so I used that to nail them to a piece of basswood I had in my studio, I then added a frame to it and painted the frame gold and green.
I like arranging objects in threes. When I was small I asked my mom why she had three children and she told me that she thought three was the perfect number. So I guess it stuck with me, and I always find myself arranging vases in threes, buying in threes (three oranges, three apples etc.) weird, huh?
The background is red paint and while the paint was still wet I traced some lines with a piece of wood, so it looks like I painted white lines but it's actually the material in the bottom of the box that's showing (which by the way, this time is not a cigar box but a wood box with a glass cover and everything, they make them for displaying stuff) That's why the lines look so wiggly, because they were traced by hand. This box has a glass that slides from the top and it's beeaoootiful! I like all the layers and the colors. It looks balanced and I just loved how it looks in real life, the colors are so much more vivid than in the picture. And there's something about red, gold and chinese charms that go well together, don't you think so?
This box is also at Cafe Mia if you're in the area, please stop by and take a look!
