CHARM- Topic for May 20 2008

The topic for next found art is CHARM, I hope I get a chance this week to get on the found art wagon! Come on, come on, come with me!

I'm thinking of making a good luck Charm! HA HA! And then get two birds with one stone, and do this week AND last week's topic too! (remember it was "luck"?) I can do this because I am the one who comes up with the themes, but hey, if you have a suggestion I am ALL EARS! Come to the Found Art Tuesday Flickr group and let your voice be heard. And in case you missed it, Robayre (who was just featured in decor8, don't know if you heard) just declared complete anarchy! It doesn't matter if you are not done by Tuesday! yay! You can also reinterpret the topic anyway you like, the idea is to make something!

Have a great weekend!

Topic for next Found Art Tuesday (May 13 2008): LUCK

The topic for next week is LUCK.

You know how some people are very lucky and they always get things going for them. I sometimes wonder if we are making our own luck. Maybe it's the attitude and the way we approach things and people.

I know this must be true, they also call it KARMA, I like that word, although I don't really understand the full extent of what it means.

I like to see people having good luck, it's always nice to find a 50 dlls bill on the street, or winning something, but there are other kinds of luck. The good luck of being ALIVE for example. Of having the opportunity of stepping outside to stand in the sunlight, to have food on our table, to be healthy, to have family closeby. We sometimes forget about all the good things we have, of how lucky we are... I know it sounds so much like a cliché, but it is important to remember this once in a while.

And how lucky the person who finds a little found art next Tuesday! how lucky they will feel to have a chance to participate in this!

Found art theme for May 6, 2008: CIRCUS

I was inspired by Christina at My topography today, She always writes so beautifully, today she wrote about how she went to see the circus and had all these thoughts, and how it would be if she could follow them around and document their life. I remember thinking about that too when I was growing up, the circus had such an interesting aura to me. And for some reason gypsies were always around when we went to the circus. I loved gypsies. They were all very beautiful with green eyes and dark hair. So misterious, with this weird accent I couldn't quite place. And yet they always looked at you right in the eye. My mom always told me not to talk to them because they kidnapped little kids. Did they really? At night I sometimes wished they had.

When I was a kid I definitely thought it would be a matter of time before I ran away with the circus. Maybe I did. My mom surely thinks I have.

So the topic for this week is CIRCUS. Do with it what you may or feel.

Have a great weekend!

Found art theme for april 22, 2008: KINDNESS

Yesterday I was listening to a podcast I downloaded of a local radio show I sometimes listen in the morning. It's called "The Bob and Sheri Show" and it's your regular radio show where they talk about nothing and everything at the same time.  So yesterday I was listening to this podcast that was actually fro two or three days earlier, and they were interviewing this guy, Michael J. Chase, who lives in Maine, and he has started something called "The Kindness Center" where he is trying to teach people about the benefits of being kind. Not only to yourself but to others too. He does spontaneous acts of kindness for people who may need it, like shoveling the snow for an elderly person who needs it, and this is without them knowing he's going to do it. He just shows up and shovels the driveway. And there's a bunch of other things he does, like buy coffee and a hot meal for a homeless person, etc. He did something called "Drops of Kindness" I think it was on the 14th of April, and he went 24 hrs. straight trying to find someone who needed something and help. Here's a few I took from his website:

-Bring flowers to someone in a nursing home who doesn't have many visitors

-Let someone merge onto traffic during rush hour

-As you go about your day, pick up the trash you see

It all DOES make a diference. And it is NOT about the money, the money can only do so much, I think it's more about the attitude, the way you approach someone who seems to be in need, sometimes just listening is enough. And people can be suspicious sometimes, but they quickly turn around and I think it's because of the attitude you approach them with.  It is good for the soul too. I think the truly happy people in the world live for others and for the needs of others first.

Ok, so after this introduction, the topic for next week's found art is: KINDNESS

Let's make something that shows kindness and that spreads this message, pay for someone's coffee at the drive thorugh, say something nice to someone, make a certificate to the best cashier you've seen today, or for the best bus driver you've seen, and then fill out their name and give it to them. (I'm borrowing this idea from someone who did this, I can't remember who, Oh internet, how big art thou)

Go spread it! and thank you!

Topic Found Art Tuesday April 15 2008: FACE !

DSC03118.JPG

The topic for next week's found art is FACE

I learned a new expression this week: Face Value. The meaning was interesting to discover, and also how the word "face" works in there, it's as if to say that it's got to be honest because you are looking it... as it is?  So can a face be always honest? Can you trust someone by trying to read their face? mmm.. sometimes it's hard. Or could it been "Phase value?" oh, that may have such a different meaning...., as in, "Oh, it has value, but It's just a phase"

More thoughts.. Faces of  emotion, face of a friend, face of a stranger, face vs. phase, faces (vs. phases) of the moon, maybe?

have fun, and have a great weekend!

PS, the filming for the commercial was great! (It was more like an interview, really.. and it's also more like an "infomercial" kind of thing) pictures and details coming!! Promise!

Topic for Found Art Tuesday April 8: A GOOD MESSAGE

DSC03174.JPG

I thought that after getting so many kind and encouraging words these past few days, I seem to be in the mood to pay it forward, so let's start this leg of Found Art just leaving something that sends out a good message to somebody,  it doesn't even has to say anything, maybe like a postcard with a beautiful drawing, or maybe it can be a flower in a bench with a small note, or a beautiful painted rock! there are so many possibilities and ways to leave encouraging messages everywhere. Is someone ready to listen to them? I am sure that the person who needs it WILL find it, the world works like that sometimes, and I really do believe in that, so let's try and make it happen people!.

Thanks to everybody who wants to participate!! YAY!
