Ring display and new rings
Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 10:19PM A few weeks ago I bought a lot and I mean A LOT of ring blanks and I was wondering if I had the energy to do resin on them, because it takes forever to have them ready for the resin. First you have to paint and collage the bezel, seal it, wait until it dries. All of this usually takes a day or more. Then you have to mix the resin, pour it, zap the bubbles out of them constantly, and then wait another full day for the resin to cure. And I have terrible luck because usually there is one or two rings on every batch that decide to bail on me and do their own thing. (meaning, they are a mess!) not to mention that resin has a mind of it's own and suddenly decides it doesnt want to cure, just because it can.
So I decided to try and use clay on these to try it out. I baked the clay on the ring, and I am sure I am not the first one to think of this, but they're awesome! and also a joy to make! I loved the painting part too, I sealed them with lacquer. And by the way, if you know how to get lacquer off skin, please let me know, because I spray lacquered almost half my hand. (And no, I did not put them on my finger and then sprayed the lacquer on)
I also made a ring jewelry box to display them at the gallery. I used yet another cigar box I had lying around, bought a pvc pipe cut it to the box length, wrapped each tube with bubble wrap and black felt and done!
Look:
I LOVE making rings!
