The recent commission
Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 02:07AM These are the three paintings I did last December, they complete the series for the "Hope House" and were made under commission, I had a lot of freedom for the composition and the colors. The topics are "LOVE, TRUST, FAITH", and the reason I did not show them until today was because they were a Christmas present! I hope the recipient liked them, because I really loved them. The size is 14 x 14 inches and the media is acrylic and collage on canvas.
I've been thinking what it is I like about painting and why I am choosing to do this instead of doing macrame or scrapbooking my kids pictures (that could even be something I SHOULD be doing anyway) but it is the freedom of spirit that painting gives me, some people need to run 5 miles a day to stay mentally sane, or take 5 shots of whiskey to feel free and calm at the same time. I need to paint. No, scratch that... I need to sit down on my studio table, choose the right kind of music for that moment -music that could range between Ella Fitzgerald to Mexican rap- and browse through the six boxes and eight drawers of papers, paints, books, brushes, coins and stamps.. and THEN something happens, it starts to make sense, papers start finding each other and their counterpart in balance and color, the story starts to form, ideas start to develop. It is a delicate process and I am getting better at hearing the subtle voices of inspiration and giving them form as time flies by. Usually this happens when everyone is asleep and if all the planets align themselves for the perfect session, I will remember why I like painting so much and I sometimes understand what the great masters mean when they talk about passion for their work. That is why I love what I do.

Happy New Year, Rosa!

You comletely out did yourself. Very beautiful and organic are these works. I have one technical question....it looks like in the work love you used a white pen, paint, to do the writing and some detail work..what do you use? If it is a pen, what brand? I always have a hard time finding a white pen that writes on acrylic and collage!
