How I paint Frida, Part 2
Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 03:07PM Here are the new pictures of my Frida painting. After finishing the background and buying me some new black acrylic paint I continued painting the hair:
And after the hair I painted the base for the necklace made of wooden beads.
I am also picturing the color palette so you can see what colors I'm using.
I continued with a base color for the face
She's looking kind of scary right now, but just wait a little longer, it's time to make some decisions about the lighting. Once we have determined where the light is coming from we can determine the shadows
After adding some shadows with acrylic paint thinned with some acrylic medium I continued working with the color pencils to add some more shadows and depth. In some cases when the color was too thick I sanded the color off (yes, with sand paper) this is one of the many beauties of working with wood!
Adding Frida's moustache and unibrow...
And after adding some more details with color pencils and acrylics,
This last picture is a scanned image, not a digital picture, so I think it shows more detail and the true colors of the painting.
So what do you think?? I'll be showing this piece in my art exhibit at Cafe Mia that opens this Sunday! I am so excited about it! wish me luck!
