Work in progress
This Sunday was quiet and I had a great time in the studio, got a lot of work done. I still have to make the found art piece but I think I know what I'm going to do, it's all in my head. I am also investigating about the people from the the class of 1918 from the High School graduation book from Winston-Salem. I've found a few things about them and what I'm missing will be fun to make it up so I can make their life portraits. I'm looking forward to this little project.
What do you think about this little drawing I made? I am un-dusting my fingers from drawing faces and trying my luck at it again. I had forgotten how much I love to draw people. I never seem to be able to get the likeness of who I'm drawing but it's fun to try anyway. This is Mateo, and he is still a work in progress. I am thinking of using a little of collage to define the background better, but I think that it'll leave the face just as it is now. (I'll post another picture when I'm finished)
I made this in a wooden cigar box lid that I treated with white gesso. All the papers form the lid give it an incredible visual texture. The paint is an acrylic wash. It's almost like a watercolor painting, I love the way gesso welcomes the paint, it doesn't absorbs it but neither makes it runny, they're just a perfect match for each other.
by the way... Happy Mother's day!!!
