Found Art Feb 6, 2007: SUPERHERO
Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 12:18AM This is becoming more a Found Art Wednesday the last couple of weeks, but I'm still here, and this week I was sooo busy, so many things to do, doctor appointments to go to, laundry, etc, etc.. Anyway, this is a new thing I tried this week. I have been thinking on making a flyer and putting it up around my small town as found art. I have wondered what would people make of it? will they notice? would they think I'm trying to sell something? I saw something similar to this in Keri Smith's blog (she's brilliant!) also Summer Pierre did a series of flyers around a theme (she is also brilliant)
This is a drawing made in plain white paper with black markers. It is supposed to be funny. Is it funny? It's supposed to make you smile and also make you realise that YOU are the real superhero. There are not magic superhero powers in a paper you keep in your pocket, it's you who gets motivated by taking things less seriously. (Does it make sense?, I wonder)
I plan to make copies of it plain white paper and leave them around in windshields and bulletin boards. This will be a mass found art piece. It is certainly something different to the other pieces I've made. I wonder if it's still found art or should it be called guerilla art? something resembling graffiti, maybe?
Santo is the most famous wrestler in Mexico. He's from the 60's and made a lot of movies, I grew up looking at these movies in the tv and wondering who was this guy fighting aliens and female robots. I've been intrigued by our mexican luchadores and the power they have to captivate people. The movies are amazing by the way... a real folk hero. Chuntaro style.
By the way, I haven't posted about where I left last week's found art, I have to upload the pictures from my camera, I will just say for now that I did leave it out there to be found. I was tempted to send it to Robyn since I felt so bad for her when I read her iPod died. Nevertheless... I resisted and left it out somewhere. Update soon!
Please visit Kathy to see her take on the theme. a really good one!
Also visit Pacha she has made a wonderful piece with a wonderful message.
Thanks you guys for all the support for this project!

Which reminds me, do you get responses very often from the people who pick up your work?
