Found Art Topic for next Tuesday Jan 23,2007: ART
Friday, January 19, 2007 at 04:06PM I've been intrigued for a while in what people think as "Art" and the best explanation I've read is in wikipedia, of all places....
"Art is a result of human creativity which has some perceived quality beyond its usefulness, usually on the basis of aesthetic value or emotional impact"
So this basically means that you don't need to go to a fine arts school and graduate as an artist to make something that can be interpreted as "art" may it be a painting, a sculpture, a quilt or almost anything your mind imagines. But it still has to have an aesthetic value and/or emotional impact. It's valuable as an art piece because it makes us feel something, or see an issue in a new light, even if we agree with it or not. It moves us. This is what I've been trying to do to the people in this town, be moved by the art pieces I leave behind, even if they don't like them, that's not the point. The thing is, they would see them and think... "Now why would someone do something like this? and leave it here?" that gets the wheels of imagination in motion, or maybe, if I'm lucky... "Look at this! I like it and I'm keeping it" but in general people don't seem to be noticing and maybe it's because we live in our own bubbles, so safe and isolated of others, we wouldn't touch something that doesn't belong to us! not even look at it!! and watch out if you touch my bubble!!! I will poke yours first!! We have grown up and we know the rules of no-touch, no-look. Well, I am here to change that a little bit, and I'm not alone!! Kathy is with me too (most of the time, I mean, she needs to have time for other stuff too. She's a special connection created in the internet world) and you can make a difference too! I know it's not saving the world or feeding hungry children, that would be good time spent too, maybe it'll be just putting a dent in the "I don't care" situation. Make them look around more, shake things up a bit, loosen up, things are happening around us and we need to be more alert! this is a start on making others be more mindful of things. Maybe the next thing they'll notice is that little voice that has been saying all these years.. "Hey, remember that novel you wanted to write?....."

Love the topic...I still have not had anyone leave a comment on my blog...I tend to agree with you. People seen to be too wrapped up in their own thing rather than rejoice in a simple act of kindness. GO figure!
